Further information
About the Healthier Air for Schools Award
The award began last year and was awarded to schools for their continued support, awareness raising and engagement with the council's school run parking programme, Sustrans schools cycling and Living Streets walk to school initiatives. The projects all aim to help improve parking, congestion and air quality outside of the school gates.
There are three criteria that schools need to achieve to gain the award (you can also submit extra evidence to achieve a merit – listed in the attached Healthier Air in Schools Award 2018-19 guide):
- Achieving at least your Silver Eco-Schools Award with the topic of transport covered
- At least 1 ongoing scheme for example Living Streets ‘Walk to School’, Sustrans Schools Cycling - which has lasted at least 2 school terms
- At least 1 event involving parents and the community (this can include participating in the Big Pedal)
How do we get the award?
If your school meets these three criteria (and any of the merit criteria), please complete the attached submission form. It is only one side of A4 – with three sections to add detail to (max 200 words).
All we ask is that you can supply some photographic evidence with the return of the submission form. If you need a hand completing the form, please let me know.
Please mention in the merit section ANY of the work you have been doing with the Air Quality Education Programme. In addition, if you haven’t worked with me on Air Quality Education yet, not to worry, this won’t affect achieving the award.
What happens next?
I’ll go through the evidence submitted and will be in touch with any queries that I may have.
If agreed, by the wider team, you will receive your Healthier Air Award in due course.
An official presentation for the Healthier Air Awards will take place during the Eco-Schools and Food for Life Celebration on Friday 14 June, 9.30-2pm. Schools are invited to bring up to 5 pupils and present two of their eco-school topics. Please see attached flyer for further details and how to enter –
