Strategic Capital Investment in Leicester Schools

Further information

Leicester’s Building School’s for the Future (BSF) programme has delivered £350million capital investment in moving 23 Secondary and Special Schools across the city into the 21st century. This investment has paid dividends in transforming teaching and learning environments. We are thrilled to see our city children and young people using new technology and spaces for learning in ambitious and creative ways to support their educational journey.

This investment was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build inspiring, flexible, adaptable and welcoming schools that will lift aspirations of young people today and those of future generations to come.

The journey to transform learning environments across Leicester began through the development of a strategy for change for each school – a key brief used by architects to understand the schools aspirations and vision for delivering education. The strategy recognised that transformation would not be met through building or refurbishing alone. Change would be achieved through inspirational and innovative teaching methods, by fostering a culture of health and wellbeing, through leaning beyond the classroom and by opening school facilities for community use.

The Children’s Strategy team in Learning Quality and Performance (LQP) have had the pleasure of working with ambitious colleagues across secondary and SEN schools. We would like to thank all the staff involved in the programme for their drive and tireless commitment to building great schools and making them work so well for our students.
